came more out of necessity than as a deliberate effort at launching a business.
Back then, as now,  Studio operations had cultivated a large pool of richly
talented artists and musicians, many of whom were not overly thrilled at the
prospect of signing their talents away to a major label and getting lost in
the shuffle.  Over time it became more and more apparent that the studio
artists needed a "home"... Promotion, exposure, and a way to effectively
get the music out to the public without allot of corporate crap.
